Interpretation
How Image Compression works
The compressor re-encodes your image in the browser at the quality you choose — JPEG for universal compatibility (transparency is flattened to white) or WebP for usually smaller files. The before/after panel shows the exact size, format and savings; outcomes vary by image, so nothing is guaranteed until you run it.

What it means: Dimension count is unchanged — the saving comes purely from more efficient lossy encoding. Zoom in on fine texture in the preview before downloading; if detail matters, step quality up to 90% and accept a larger file.
Watch out
Common mistakes
- For web images, aim for 60-80% quality — most viewers cannot distinguish quality loss below 80%. For PNG images with few colors (logos, icons), resizing or converting to a palette format can beat JPEG re-encoding.
